Nenga-jo

We send New year's greeting cards on a new year's day in Japan. It is called Nenga-jo.

I made lino printing to use for Nenga-jo. I printed it with red ink. But the lino board itself has much detail. A bit scary, though... 

I love Japanese comedy. On a new year's day, many people watch comedy programs on TV,which offer us great laugh. It means this year will be happy because we start new year to laugh.

That's the reason why I chose this image. Two comedians try to make people laugh.

Rat in the Skull

I was thinking why the rat are in the skull???

 The reasons could be...

 The skull is his house

 The rat has eaten the skull's brain

 The rat falls in love with the skull

and Mini-mes. Ipe, Chloe and me. We left them on a bed in our room......We're still here!

"A Mad, Happy November Night"

My chosen headline is "A mad, Happy November Night".  On the night, there were celebration parties everywhere in the US because of Barack Obama's win. 

My imagination is that even apples on a tree are so merry that they are going to fly high.

I made 2D images by collage and a 3D by plasticine and a tree miniature.

Kit Images

I chose a story "Binnorie" and produced a series of 5 images for it. At first, I started working on a white paper but it didn't work well because I wanted to depict the relationship among them. Then, I tried to cut 5 images out and mapped onto cloth(I don't know the name, thick and woven roughly). I used bubble wrap,sequins,beads,cotton buds,coloured tapes,strings and cellophane wrappings. I painted with black and white acrylics.

This book is informed by my universe.

Universe

My starting point was a Hand which makes everything. Then I divided it into two categories; first-hand and mediated. I chose the former Body because it is a part of body. The latter was 

Brain because Brain manipulates Hand to do something. Like that, it turned into a pyramid.

Moreover, I separated several different categories such as Like and Dislike, Necessary and Unnecessary, Optimistic and pessimistic and  Abstract and figurative.

It is the first individual work in Illustration course in the first year.

I decorated my space by drawing a lot of characters on big white cloth. Those characters come from the memories in my life ; my house, sea, ship, forest, tree, fish, red cycle, mountain, school, fishing, bear, turtle, plane, traveling, basketball, band, island, watermelon, a pair of mug, snake, mole, snake, ghost, pupils and so on. They don't settle themselves in particular place but can travel on the world because they have snap fasteners on each backs. I attached snap fasteners on the background as well. So, it seems to be a good toy for children.
